The Second Kintra I recently got hold of (a sample, sadly) is this Tamdhu 20 yo. Sherry cask as well, but what a whisky. All gone by now, and not surprisingly, but it’s glory should be told right? Now, Tamdhu has just been bought recently by Ian Macleod Distillers , after being mothballed in 2010 by Edrington Group. Now let’s hope this will lead to interesting OB by this lovely distillery. This dram shows great promise, and maybe we’ll see more of this greatness in the future.
Kintra Tamdhu 1990/20yo Cask KW001 48,1% ABV , 84 btl
Nose: Big sherry sweetness but not over imposing. Honey , dried fruits especially raisins in thick syrup. Some citrus effect on the sides that balances the sweet tones. Great nose. by all means.
Palate : Thick and oily , starts bait bitter than the dried fruit start to shine through : plums, raisins fudge and chocolate truffle.
Finish : bitter sweet symphony. Wood And fortified wine, and wee mint.
Bottom line:
Great stuff. Nothing short of Greatness. If you love whisky, you’ll fall in love with this one and want one badly. Pity all are sold, and none are available anymore.Good work , Erik.
Score: 91/100
Many thank to Erik for the official sample of this wee gem.
Gal.
