After posting my notes on the Exclusive malts Glengoyne 9 yo , i got a comment from Johan , a whisky blogger from Sweden, and a reader of my blog (Thank you Johan!) who mentioned another lovely bottling from the CWC, of this 12 year old ‘Livet. Johan kindly agreed to send me a wee sample from a bottle of this he has and thought it was of exceptional quality. A week later, the wee sample arrived, and was poured later that evening into a Glencairn, to be fully appreciated, nosed and tasted. As it seems Johan is indeed a man of taste, and this dram did not let me down in any way. It was fantastic.
Creative whisky Co, the exclusive malts , Glenlivet 12 yo, 1997 Single Sherry Cask # 804 , 53,9% ,376 btl.
Nose: A lot of vanilla, and dried fruits (sultanas and dates in thick syrup) , hints of Balsamico, honey and spice. The nose is quite alcoholic, and I decided on adding a few drops of water.
Palate: Sugary, and some earthy notes mixed with golden syrup, dates, sultanas and prunes, all with a peppery, zingy finish to it.
Finish :sugary dried fruit, pepper and cocoa.
Bottom line:
This is a little stunner. It’s so different than the IB 12 year old, which is light and grassy, where here major sherry attack, sugars flying all around, and spiciness abound.
Nice choice of cask!
Score: 90/100
Again, many thanks to Johan for the wee sample.
I am glad you liked it. I was actually quite sure you would… 😉
