Every year The Malt Maniacs release their MM awards. The awards are maybe the best non-interest ranking you can find. Each judge (11 in number, world wide) gets to sample around 260 samples, blind and then the scores are all presented along with an average.
This year’s ‘winner’ is : Glendronach 38yo 1972/2010 (49.5%, OB, Oloroso Sherry butt, C#700, Taiwan, 241 Bts.), which i have not had… most of the top 10 bottlings are single casks and very limited, of course… Check out the entire awards here (PDF).
But, i spotted quite a few malts which i liked (and reviewed here this year, who got to be GOLD or Silver medallists)
- Karuizawa 32yo 1977/2010 ‘Noh’ (60.7%, Number One Drinks, Sherry Butt, C#4592, 190 Bts.) – which i reviewed last week
- Glenfarclas 40yo (46%, OB, Bottled +/- 2010) – as you can remember i bought a wee sample of this, and it’s awesome!
- Lagavulin DE 1991/2008 (43%, OB, Lgv.4/496) – a long favourite of mine!
- Yamazaki NAS ‘Sherry Cask’ (48%, OB, Bottled +/- 2010) – loved this one
- Ardbeg NAS ‘Uigeadail’ (54.2%, OB, Bottled +/- 2010) – my all time favorite Ardbeg
- Port Charlotte 8yo ‘PC8’ (60.5%, OB, Bottled +/- 2010, 30000 Bts.) – stunning!
- Kavalan ‘Solist’ (58.5%, OB, Sherry cask, C#S060626040, Bottled +/- 2010, 599 Bts. – recently reviewed.
and the list goes on and on
Good work Serge & Co.
