Quick Dram: Blair Athol 1991 ‘Foraged Fruit Fool’ 1991- Wemyss Malts

A quick tasting note today, maybe the last for this week due to a long weekend , while we celebrate the Israeli Independence day on Wednesday night.
Sometimes you just feel like an ultra fruity and exotic dram, and this Blair Athol is pretty much just that. Rich, sweet and lovely. Ex-bourbon maturation to the max.  I’ve not had many Blair …

Wemyss Malts ‘Toffee Tuile 1999’–Aberfeldy

After the exceptional cask strength Bowmore (yes, we want more CS version, dear Wemyss.) It’s time to explore another tasty expression from the latest batch. This one is still available, which is good news. I’ve not had a lot of Indie Aberfeldy (Or any Aberfeldy) lately, so this was an interesting one to try.

The Rockpool 1995 – Wemyss Malts (Bowmore) – Review

We’re back!
Passover is over (Thank goodness), and the malt can flow again. I’ve chosen to get into posting tasting notes mood with the latest offering from indie bottler Wemyss Malts. Their latest batch of single casks features the following casks:

“The Rockpool” 1995 single cask from Bowmore Distilery, Islay, Cask Strength
“Foraged Fruit Fool” 1991 single cask from Blair Athol Distillery, Highlands
“Toffee …

Wemyss Malts Linkwood 1996 ‘Honeysuckle Bower’

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the lovely Caribbean Crème (Invergordon 1988) single grain from the same batch of single cask released by Wemyss last month. This is a single cask Linkwood distilled in 1996 and from its name you can guess it’s going to be quite floral. I am not a BIG fan of floral whiskies, but On …

Wemyss Malts Single Grain ‘Caribbean Crème’ , Invergordon 1988

This week is going to feature quite a bit of new releases, and the next one I am reviewing is one of Wemyss Malt’s new batch of single cask (a couple will be reviewed), and what a better way to start, than with a single grain. I am quite fond of older grains as you well know, and this one …

New from Wemyss Malts “Velvet Fig” – Review

It’s almost XMAS time and what better time to release new whiskies for the holiday season? I suspect we’re about to see many such products in the following weeks, and the latest is a very interesting Blended Malt  by the name of Velvet Fig. Do not be alarmed, There is no added figs or anything  (as I’ve been asked by …

A couple of Wemyss malts from the latest release–Invergordon and Clynelish

Three weeks ago or so Came another single casks release by one of my favorite independent bottlers : Wemyss. as always, each malt (or grain in this instance) has a unique name which characteriszes it, I was lucky to be able to sample three of the recent batch (which was EPIC in size – 12 different casks). Two very different …

Wemyss Malts–“At Anchor in a cove”–Glen Scotia 1991

Another Glen Scotia (I really love this distillery, especially when it’s bottled by IB) from the latest batch of single casks from Wemyss. If you remember the excellent Merchant’s Mahogany Chest (another 1991 vintage GS from Wemyss I reviewed), you might have guessed I had very high expectations from this one. Will it live up to the expectations? not all …

Wemyss Malts – Melon Vine – Aberfeldy 1994

Been a while since i sampled a dram coming from the lovely distillery of Aberfeldy. Founded in 1896 and opened at 1898 , it’s located on the southern bank of upper Tay. The distillery closed down between 1917-1919 due to malt shortages caused by WWI, however it did operate through WWII , with only a few …
