First dram of 2012 : Duncan Taylor ‘Dimensions‘ Aberlour 1993

I am not too fond of yearly summaries and selecting best whiskies etc, so I have refrained from doing that and now that we’re officially in 2012, it’s time for the first dram of the new year. I’ve selected a recent bottling (though 2011, I fear no 2012 bottling exist to date, early in the second day of the year) …

Tasting Master of Malt Speyside 30 year 4th edition

Only a few weeks ago I tasted the 3rd edition and here comes a brand new edition. This one is totally different than the third, with a much more sherry influence (back to the ‘roots’ as the 2nd edition). Let’s give this a try, shall we?

Tasting the Master of Malt Speyside 30 year old 3rd edition

After Tasting the 40 and 50 year olds, it’s high time to test the ‘middle aged’ 30 year old. This one again is a Secret Bottling and differs from the 2nd Edition by replacing the sherried notes with some fresh honey and malt (as quoted from the official tasting notes).

Tasting Speyburn 25 year old Solera

A few months ago I visited the Speyburn distillery as part of a blogger’s visit to some of the Inver House’s distilleries. The Speyburn distillery, is located in wonderful surrounding near Rothes , all green and pastoral, but sadly it lacks a proper visitor center. While there we got to sample the 10 year old and a NAS expressions, which …

Tasting Glenfarclas Movember 2011 by Master of Malt

You all know by now it’s Movember time, and what more fitting than tasting this year’s special bottling especially for Movember by the guys at Master of Malt. This little cracker was distilled in September 2002 and bottled in September 2011, this most unusual 9 year old Glenfarclas has been taken from two Oloroso sherry hogshead casks. Not often do …

Tasting the AnCnoc 1997 vintage

You all know that i have a warm spot in my heart for the AnCnocs. The 12 year old is a house favourite here, so light and gentle, great for summer, and after having visited the distillery a few months ago, and meeting the lovely distillery people and manager, every time i sip on a wee dram, those lovely memories …

Tasting Dailuaine 1983 , 27yo Single Cask (Master of Malt)

This one concludes the recent excellent single cask  bottlings released by MoM (North British 20 yo,Cragganmore 20 yo,and the somewhat weird Dalmore 14yo) which i reviewed recently. This one a Dailuaine 27 year old is very interesting, and IMHO, the best of the bunch. Not many Dailuaine single casks bottling out there, so this is double the fun.

New Release – Tasting the Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch #2

The Balvenie Tun 1401 is a relatively new release, and is very intriguing since batch #1 was highly acclaimed (Sadly i did not get to try that one, and it’s now all gone). So what is Tun 1401? basically it’s a special vatting of hand picked casks by the Balvenie malt master David Stewart. David selected 10 casks from the …

Tasting the Glenrothes 1995 vintage

This new Glenrothes is one of the youngest (save the 1998) vintages to  have been released and is special in a way , since this is the first vintage bottling which is planned, before that vintages were just made out of existing stock, and were “unplanned” as opposed to this one. the 1995 is composed of 30% sherry treated casks …
