Quick dram: Overeem Take II- Sherry cask 60%

After I’ve enjoyed the sherry cask at 43% , it’s time to try the higher ABV version at 60%. I’m a big fan of Cask Strength whiskies, and rarely dilute with water at all , so 60% is no biggie, right? Let’s dram!

Kavalan Solist Fino Cask

Last week was a good whisky week. David from Australia came over for whisky talk and a few drams, and brought this sample for me to try. I’ve been a long time fan of Kavalan, and was excited to try this one, I’ve never really gotten to try for some reason.

Auchentoshan 1996 Bottle your own Cask # 11030

How does it go? oh yes: My whisky friend Yoav went to Scotland and all I got was this lousy sample … But really, this is a lovely little sample I got from Yoav who managed to fill a wee bottle (thanks mate!) and spared me a sample, which is very cool. This is a Bourbon cask, distilled 28/06/1996 and …

Breath of Speyside Adelphi 15 yo 60,2% [Glenfarclas]

You know that Glenfarclas does not permit IB’s to bottle its malt and call it Glenfarclas, so they do find weird names to name their bottles. One amazing (and much older) was the
Glenfarclas Norse Cask 1964 “Rechlerich” I scored at 97/100 (best ever?), This one is also a very nice indie GF, I got from my good whisky friend Tom …

Caskstrength and Carry On – 3D Whisky

So there you have it, a whisky in 3D. sounds intriguing? Well, it is. And it comes from non other than the 2 chaps from Caskstrength.net Joel and Neil. They are on a mission to release whiskies from A-Z each year another letter, and this is their 4th year (after Arran,Benriach,Cutty Sark). But this year they chose not one distillery …

Tasting The Arran Millennium Casks

Two weeks ago The Arran Whisky distillery has unveiled a new Charity whisky, which was produced on a very special date: 31st of December 1999. What is also special about this whisky is that it’s intended for charity: and a donation out of each bottle sold of those 7,800 bottles will go to the Arran Trust,a conservation charity which funds …

Glentauchers 30 yo Artist Series for LMDW

This is another one from Shai’s sample bomb. After the lovely Wigle wheat whiskey, time for an older Speysider. Glentauchers is owned by Pernod Ricard, and does not really bottle any of its malt as OBs, and you can find quite a few IBs. I don’t think I’ve tasted one until today, so another distillery off the “Need to taste” …

Benriach 1998 cask 7633 PX puncheon finish

Time for another of the latest BR single casks just released. Not a peated cask this time but equally interesting : this one is triple distilled (yes, you read that right T-r-i-p-l-e) which is quite unusual for the Benriach as only a small fraction of the spirit distilled annualy is triple distilled there. It has been matured for 15 years …

Laphroaig 10 CS– original edition (red band)

Long ago, when I was making my first steps in the whisky world, I was very keen on MONSTER peat drams. The higher  the PPM, the better, or so I thought. As time went by, my palate did change, and I realised it’s the delicate aromas and Complexity is what I prefer, Peat or not peat. Mega peat is nice …

Springbank 14 yo Burns Malt [The Whisky Barrel]

Another indie bottling sold by TWB (which bears a cunning similarity to the Whisky Broker bottlings). Every springer is welcome at WI towers, and especially cask strength &  single cask ones. always something to look forward too, and this one did not disappoint.
