BenRiach – Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Time for another lovely Boutique-y bottling and of one of my Favourite distilleries out there : The BenRiach. as always, with Boutique-y bottlings the hand drawn labels are cool, this one features a monkey in the malting room. as you well know
BenRiach is one of the very few distilleries who still malt a  small proportion of their own barley. In …

Single Cask Nation Benriach 17 yo Peated

Another cask from the lovely gang at JewMalt, this time a Benriach. Who doesn’t like one. I was not really aware it was a peated cask, until i sniffed the bottle, and boy, there was no dispute. This is some nice Peated stuff. I like those!
This cask bottling, distilled in June 1995, spent 17 years maturing in a second fill …

Maltstock Masterclass #2–The Benriach and Glendronach

After finishing the MoM master class, we went out to eat a light lunch of sandwiches , as to allow us to eat nicely at dinner, while BBQ Guru NL was doing his magic with the BBQ and grill. Everyone was drooling at the sight of the piglet which was cooking nicely since the morning on the skewer.

A bit more …

Tasting The Benriach “Horizons” 12 yo triple distilled

Today’s dram is the Benriach Horizons 12. What’s so unique about it is that it’s distilled three times as opposed to most single malts which are distilled twice (or 2.5 times like in Springbank). Will be interesting to see how the third distillation affects the liquid. One thing I do like about this one and many young Benriachs is that …

The Benriach ‘Generations’ 1988 Gaja barolo Cask #4423 (Singapore)

Earlier this year I posted my notes for a younger single cask expressions bottled for the Singapore market. Unlike the other cask, this one is a wine cask , and a Gaja barolo to be more exact, rather than a classic sherry cask.  It’s time to check out the older expression and see how we like it over here, right? …

The Benriach ‘Birnie Moss’

The Birnie Moss has been around for a couple of years now since 2008, and it’s been added ‘officially’ to the peated Benriachs (change of bottle, and packaging). This one is the youngest of the bunch (NAS) but the color really gives it away,as well as the nose, as we’re about to see soon. It’s bottled at 48%, which is nice …

The new BenRiach Authenticus 25 yo

A few weeks ago The Benriach had announced they are making a few changes to their peated whisky range, and although their production of peated malts is only 12 weeks per year, I do like their peated line very much, and I am not alone, they are very popular, and show another facet of speyside whisky making which involves heavy …

Tasting The BenRiach ‘Solstice’ 17 yo

I am back!
Been a quiet week blogging wise, with not much activity, but believe me it was not a quiet time in regard to whisky. I had  a few amazing days on the Isle of Jura, and in London, visiting the Whisky Live show, meeting so many wonderful people who are passionate about whisky (and having drunk a lot of …

Tasting The BenRiach 17 ‘Septendecim’

The latest peated expression from the Benriach is called Septendecim (17 in Latin), and follows the BenRiach tendency to apply Lating names to it’s peated line of malts such as the  Authenticus, Curiositas and the Fumosus family. Who says good peated whiskies only comes from Islay? In the past we’ve seen it’s not the case with the BenRiach 21.
The BenRiach …
