Michel Couvreur 12 Year Overaged Malt Whisky

Michel Couvreur was a Belgian independent bottler (passed away in 2013) of single malt scotch (his actual company is located in France – Burgundy)  His cellars are located in Bouze-les-Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. Michel ages his single malts for years in sherry butts and then in demijohns or giant bottles kept in total darkness in his vast cellars.  …

Millstone 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Matured

The winter is here finally (even in Israel), and we’ve had some lower temperatures the last few days (under 10C is considered chilly in these parts of the world). that’s the time you bring out the sherry, and heavy peat, right? Right. I sampled a few interesting Millstones last year, and this was one of them (a peated version and …

The new GlenDronach 12 Sauternes finish – Review

This is a brand new GD expression which replaces the 14 year old sauternes finish, which now has been discontinued. It’s bottled at 46% as most entry level GD , NCF,  matured in European oak (read: sherry) casks, and then finished in a small batch of Sauternes wine casks (Sauternes being a sweet desert wine, in case you’re not familiar …

Bruichladdich 12 yo First Fill Sherry cask (The Maltman)

This very interesting Laddie was distilled Sept. 2001 and bottled January 2014. A total of 492 bottles were filled from cask #326 (Oloroso). A first fill laddie is something I do not think I sampled recently, and It was my first Laddie from this bottler (The Maltman), so I really did not know what to expect (other than BIG sherry).

Port Charlotte 12 year old–The Maltman

Been a while since I tasted a new cask from the Maltman, and every time it’s fun with this cool little IB. Port Charlotte, I love Port Charlotte, and this is the oldest PC I’ve tasted to date, it’s the oldest around I think. PC11 OB was brilliant, so how is one more year and a different cask will affect …

The Glenlivet Vertical (12,15,18 year olds)

Tony Soprano loves his Glenlivet 12, and I love Tony soprano, hence I love The Glenlivet 12. Sort of anyways. As the Glenlivet is probably one of the best selling single malts out there (with Glenfiddich) and very well know, It’s only appropriate we have some more of that on the blog. I know we’re posted a guest post reviewing …

Two Glengoyne (12,15 year old) OBs

Every distillery has to find some kind of “uniqueness” to its whiskies, and Glengoyne have found just that in indicating that their malt is never dried with peat (but with air), so there is no peat whatsoever in their malt. As peat heads I’m not sure this is something to really be happy about, but I guess there is always …

Blended whisky time: Ballantine’s 12

After the Irish pot stills it’s time to get back to some scotch, and what better than to try a widely available whisky, one you can get hold of anywhere in the world : Ballantine’s 12 year old.
Ballantine’s 12 year old , 40% , £31.17
