Tasting The Benriach 1990 Single Cask # 3805 for Singapore

Today I’m reviewing a very unique single cask Benriach. This one was bottled specifically for the Singapore market. 484 bottles all in all. This bottle has a very interesting story. As it appears the Singapore market is a rather important market for scotch whisky, and there are quite some special cask bottlings being released there. I cam across a lovely …

Glenfarclas 175 Special anniversary edition

No, this whisky is not 175 year old as you might guess (a wee bit too much of maturation LOL), but rather a special 175 year anniversary bottling. Glenfarclas Distillery was first licensed in 1836 and to mark the 175th year of operation, this expression was released.  It is really a vatting quite a few casks from different decades : …

Tasting Compass Box ‘The Last Vatted Malt’

At midnight on the 22nd of November 2011 an era has ended. The term Vatted Malt has been declared illegal, and a new term has come into life : “Blended Malt”. the SWA decided that the term vatted malt was not clear enough and replaced it with the new term. To celebrate this change and pay homage the the old …

First dram of 2012 : Duncan Taylor ‘Dimensions‘ Aberlour 1993

I am not too fond of yearly summaries and selecting best whiskies etc, so I have refrained from doing that and now that we’re officially in 2012, it’s time for the first dram of the new year. I’ve selected a recent bottling (though 2011, I fear no 2012 bottling exist to date, early in the second day of the year) …

Tasting Tamdhu 1984 ,26 yo , WWW forum Bottling (Creative Whisky Co.)

Earlier this year the members of the WWW forum, an excellent forum, run by Mark Connelly, were asked to choose a single cask bottling that would be bottled especially for the forum members (if they chose to buy it, of course). After some discussion the choice fell on a 1984 Tamdhu which was bottled by David Stirk owner of the …

Tasting Master of Malt Speyside 30 year 4th edition

Only a few weeks ago I tasted the 3rd edition and here comes a brand new edition. This one is totally different than the third, with a much more sherry influence (back to the ‘roots’ as the 2nd edition). Let’s give this a try, shall we?

After Tasting the 40 and 50 year olds, it’s high time to test the ‘middle aged’ 30 year old. This one again is a Secret Bottling and differs from the 2nd Edition by replacing the sherried notes with some fresh honey and malt (as quoted from the official tasting notes).

Tasting Speyburn 25 year old Solera

A few months ago I visited the Speyburn distillery as part of a blogger’s visit to some of the Inver House’s distilleries. The Speyburn distillery, is located in wonderful surrounding near Rothes , all green and pastoral, but sadly it lacks a proper visitor center. While there we got to sample the 10 year old and a NAS expressions, which …

The 12 year old is a house favourite here, so light and gentle, great for summer, and after having visited the distillery a few months ago, and meeting the lovely distillery people and manager, every time i sip on a wee dram, those lovely memories …
