Quick Dram : Teeling Small Batch

I’ve been meaning to post these tasting notes before, but never got to it. Today i walked into my local liqour shop in search of something quite different (I always check the whisky shelves to see if there is something new), and I saw this whisky and the grain version on the shelf. I was very surprised and quite content …

Teeling Single Grain Whiskey

After tasting the aged offerings from Teeling whiskey (namely the 21, 26 and 30), it’s time to get more realistic, and try the more affordable releases. Surely, not many can afford the more expensive stuff, but surely the two younger offerings are budget friendly drams. the first of the two I am going to visit is the single Grain. Grain …

Teeling Whiskey Platinum Vintage Reserve 30

We’ve arrived at the oldest available Irish whiskey on the market (as far as I know).
In contrast to the other Teeling bottlings this has been exclusively matured in ex-Bourbon casks for the entire 30 years. It is non-chilfiltered and bottled at 46%.
The malt for this was double distilled at a distillery more famous for its triple distilled single malts.Just 250 …

Teeling Whiskey Gold Reserve , 26 yo (White Burgundy finish)

We continue our journey through the Teeling range with an older expression. This whiskey was double distilled (at a distillery which usually triple distils its whiskey) in the year of 1987 then it was aged in ex-bourbon barrels , and finally it was transferred into old white burgundy barrels for finishing. I must comment that white wine finishes are not …

Tasting four Jameson expressions on St. Patrick’s Day : #JamesonWhiskey

St. Patrick’s day, what else can you do? Wear green? and drink Irish whiskey, right? what better than drink some whisky with whiskey/whisky mates from all over the world? well, nothing. I was extremely happy to be invited to this twitter tasting of four Jameson expressions by Steve Rush of the whisky wire, and get to taste maybe one of …

Flaviar Peat Pack take 1 – Connemara Cask Strength

As whisky geeks we’re always on the look for new drams and there are so many expressions out there it’s really impossible to buy every bottles that comes out. One way of trying those expressions and still be on a budget is ordering samples. Now, there are a lot of sample sites I’ve reviewed in the past (Master of Malt …

Tasting Bushmills Black Bush – It’s Saint Paddy!

Well, yes today March 17th is Saint Patrick’s day, and what better day than to review this long missing classic Irish blend. When i started my whisky journey I was quite keen on this whisky, and still think it offers a good price/ quality ration, and although it’s not the best and most complex dram I have ever had, it’s …

Tasting Whiskey : Powers John’s Lane 12 yo

Time for a bit of a change with a lovely Irish pot still beauty that is the Powers 12. named after the distillery where it was first made, and aged in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for at least 12 years. This is the first Irish Whiskey review of 2013, and quite a few are in the …
