The new Teeling Whiskey–single malt – Review

A quick break from the Blind Tasting shenanigans, with a new product from one of the more interesting Irish whisky makes out there : Teeling. Really liked their line of products, and this one is the newest addition to the core range:
Teeling Single Malt consists of aged Malt whiskey up to 23 years (the whisky is a NAS)  old that …

Quick Dram : Teeling Small Batch

I’ve been meaning to post these tasting notes before, but never got to it. Today i walked into my local liqour shop in search of something quite different (I always check the whisky shelves to see if there is something new), and I saw this whisky and the grain version on the shelf. I was very surprised and quite content …

A couple of Smooth Amblers – A Rye and a Bourbon

Smooth Ambler is a  young craft distillery located in West Virginia , producing young spirit (Vodka, Gin and aged Gin), until its stock is old enough to be sold as whiskey. Like other distilleries it’s also sourcing Bourbon, Rye and Whiskey from older distilleries in bulk, and bottling those with their own label (disclosing it’s distilled elsewhere). I’ve heard good …

Pike Creek 10 yo Double Barreled Whiskey (Port finish)

My brief summer Hiatus is over (almost, a few days here and there). It’s been a nice relaxing week, with some whisky, beer and chilling by the pool with kids and family (and friends), and it’s time to continue the summer dramming sessions with some whiskey (a few of those this week). The first one is a Canadian sample that …

Canadian Club Sherry Cask batch SC-020

Time for some more Canadian whiskey. Today with one of the better known brands – Canadian Club. This expressions is a bit unique, as it was finished in Sherry casks. If you’re a scotch aficionado, chances you won’t be blown away by this procedure of finishing a whisky in sherry casks, as it’s very common in scotch these days, but …

High West American Prairie Reserve

About 50 years ago (so it feels, but it’s really a year or so ago I think – correct me if i am Wrong, Sjoerd) my mate Sjoerd who writes the brilliant whisky blog – Malt Fascination, and a very cool dude, arranged another one of his famous bottle shares. Meaning, he buys a few bottles of good whisky, and …

Teeling Whiskey Platinum Vintage Reserve 30

We’ve arrived at the oldest available Irish whiskey on the market (as far as I know).
In contrast to the other Teeling bottlings this has been exclusively matured in ex-Bourbon casks for the entire 30 years. It is non-chilfiltered and bottled at 46%.
The malt for this was double distilled at a distillery more famous for its triple distilled single malts.Just 250 …

Teeling Whiskey Gold Reserve , 26 yo (White Burgundy finish)

We continue our journey through the Teeling range with an older expression. This whiskey was double distilled (at a distillery which usually triple distils its whiskey) in the year of 1987 then it was aged in ex-bourbon barrels , and finally it was transferred into old white burgundy barrels for finishing. I must comment that white wine finishes are not …

Westward Small Batch Oregon Straight Malt Whiskey

Time for a bit of a change, with an American single malt whiskey made in Oregon in small quantities  from 100% malted barley grown in the Pacific Northwest. Fermented with a traditional ale yeast and distilled in copper pots, the spirit is aged in new charred oak for more than 2 years. I was given a sample of this whiskey …

Tasting some Moonshine

Moonshine. Sounds exciting Illegal and drives your imagination into picturing illicit stills somewhere in the open prairies of the USA, right? I guess so. I do not have a lot of experience with Moonshine (or shine for short), but I was very excited when this wee sample arrived at my doorstep (or rather, I had to frigging go and pick …
