Springbank 14 yo [1995-2010] Fresh Sherry pipe (Springbank Soc.)

When I read a review of this one by my good friend Sjoerd (here) I was intrigued, as I’ve never heard that combination “Sherry” and “Pipe”. We mostly hear pipes next to “port”. Pipes in this context mean tall barrels in which Port is usually aged. But we live and learn and apparently sherry is also sometimes aged in those …

Glen Garioch vintage 1999 / Sherry Cask

Glen Garioch seem to be busy releasing new expression recently  : After the lovely virgin Oak (which was NAS) comes this 199 vintage Sherry cask which is not very common for GG’s. The whisky was aged in Oloroso sherry casks distilled in 1999 is non-chill filtered. Released in “limited” quantities (1000 cases) and bottled at a lovely ABV of 56.3%.

Two Young(er) Glendronach single casks from batch 8

Batch 8 of Glendronach has been released with batch 10 of BenRiach (Its sister distillery) a short while ago. I chose to start with the BRs then enter Glendronach sherry land, and here we are. GlenDronach indeed is synonymous with sherry casks, and indeed their entire range is heavily sherried, and very much loved by sherry heads. I chose to …

Bowmore Laimrig 15 yo

Been trying to source a sample of this for a long time, and thanks to my whisky friend E.S who was kind enough to mail me one (and so quick)  – mission was accomplished. For those of you who have not heard about this ‘limited edition’:
Laimrig is Scottish Gaelic for ‘pier’, and is named after Bowmore’s ancient stone pier. It’s …

Tamdhu 10 yo–Relaunch–tasting notes

Not long ago I featured this new relaunch (by Ian Macleod Distillers) in the whisky news, and It’s time to taste this quite uniquely packaged whisky. The bottle as you can see is a bit how shall we say “special”. Some like it, and some hate it, but no one is indifferent to it. When i first saw it I …

anCnoc Peter Arkle #3 “Bricks” Edition

If you read last week’s news you know pretty much all about this new expression released only recently by anCnoc. Besides the lovely Art work by Arkle, this whisky is also very tasty, having been matured in Spanish ex-sherry butts as well as American ex bourbon barrels. Like most anCnocs The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered and …

A few weeks ago a few whisky friends met for a Bruichladdich night (a post is in the making, so hopefully more about that soon), and i was lucky enough to swap samples with a good whisky friends of mine, who brought this lovely sample.
