Bruichladdich 12 yo First Fill Sherry cask (The Maltman)

This very interesting Laddie was distilled Sept. 2001 and bottled January 2014. A total of 492 bottles were filled from cask #326 (Oloroso). A first fill laddie is something I do not think I sampled recently, and It was my first Laddie from this bottler (The Maltman), so I really did not know what to expect (other than BIG sherry).

Tasting Kilchoman Loch Gorm batch #2

It’s Feis Ile week, and I know Kilchoman day is not until Thursday, but I feel like posting this review today, so that’s that. For some reason never tasted the first batch of Loch Gorm, so I can’t really compare the two batches (anyone got a wee sample for batch #1? send it over to WI towers, and you shall …

The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso Cask

I know a lot of people love the Glenlivet Nadurra (Gaelic : for nature). For some reason I’ve never fell in love with that expression. I won’t say it’s not good, since it’s a good ex-bourbon whisky at a lovely strength, etc. But, we never hit it off me and Nadurra, i mean. The new Oloroso Cask matured Nadurra promises …

GlenDronach 1972 cask # 702 , 41 years old

Back to the GlenDronach single cask release #9 with the oldest cask released in this batch, a 41 years old (older than myself) Oloroso Butt, distilled in 1972. That’s surely an interesting one (and quite expensive, as you might expect – so it’s for those of you with deep pockets, or willing to share with a few mates). After the …

Boom!–‘The Bomb’ Oloroso finish

What happens when the guys at Whisky Lounge take some 15 year-old ex-Bourbon hogshead matured Westport (a blended malt containing Glenmorangie with a teaspoon of Glen Moray added ) and put it into an Octave (50l) barrel that previously held rich Oloroso sherry. You get the bomb! I got to taste this as a wee sample sent to me by …

Glen Garioch vintage 1999 / Sherry Cask

Glen Garioch seem to be busy releasing new expression recently  : After the lovely virgin Oak (which was NAS) comes this 199 vintage Sherry cask which is not very common for GG’s. The whisky was aged in Oloroso sherry casks distilled in 1999 is non-chill filtered. Released in “limited” quantities (1000 cases) and bottled at a lovely ABV of 56.3%.

‘GlenDronach Time’ , Session #2 : The 12 year old ‘Original’

We continue our journey in GlenDronach land, with the lovely 12 year old which is i’ve learned to know is a favourite of many GlenDronach fans. Matured in a combination of PX (Pedro Ximenez) and Oloroso Sherry Casks, this whisky is the entry level GlenDronach (if we don’t take into account the younger Octarine reviewed last year). This expression is …
