Kavalan Solist Fino Cask

Last week was a good whisky week. David from Australia came over for whisky talk and a few drams, and brought this sample for me to try. I’ve been a long time fan of Kavalan, and was excited to try this one, I’ve never really gotten to try for some reason.

Tasting Kavalan Vinho

This tasting note has been sitting for far too long in my email, and I only after getting the tasting notes from Shai & Richard (members of WI whisky tasting society whose notes will be published soon), i finally arrived at publishing them.
A bit of information about this whisky (described by Ian the master blender at King Car Whisky, …

Tasting Kavalan “King Car”

Tasting four Kavalan expressions in the past months (Kavalan,Concert Master, Single Cask ‘Solist’ Ex-bourbon, and Single Cask ‘Solist’ Ex-sherry ) left me wanting more. i was utterly impressed with the sheer quality, and innovative spirit of Kavalan and their head distiller Ian Chang. Tasting Kavalan part IV : ‘Solist’ Single Cask, Ex-Bourbon

It’s been a very interesting week here at Whisky Israel HQ, with three Kavalans already tasted and reviewed. If you read yesterday’s post, you will remember that i fell in love with the Ex-Sherry single cask expression which displayed complexity , power , and quality.
Today we are about to review its sibling the Ex-Bourbon matured spirit, at natural cask strength,no …

Tasting Kavalan Solist Single Cask Strength Sherry Cask

After tasting the two ‘basic’ Kavalans, we’re approaching the higher end expressions. Single Cask, Cask strength and no colouring or chill filtration. The real deal. The first expression that i am going to review will be the Sherry Cask. This nectar was aged for three years in an Ex-Sherry casks. Mind you, three years in Taiwanese time and the hot …

Tasting Kavalan ‘Concert Master’ Port Cask Finish

After tasting the ‘vanilla’ it’s time to continue with a cask finished version of the same spirit. This expression was finished in Portuguese ruby, tawny and vintage Port wine casks and then reduced to 40%. It will be interesting to see how the port finish affects this already, very fruity and exotic profile.
The packaging is a bit weird, with a …

Tasting Kavalan Single Malt on Whisky Israel

As you well know, I am always on the hunt for new whisky sampling. Especially when it’s not a well known whisky distillery from Scotland and many are starting to pop all over the world.
World whisky is fun. It’s always a bit different than your ordinary “scotch”. Japanese whisky is excellent we all know that, Indian Amrut is also yummy …
