A new Ardbeg? – Galileo?
This is not quite official yet, but more and more pics and rumors are showing up online, Facebook , twitter. Even the Master of Malt Blog has written a post about it two days ago. So, there must be something in it. Not a lot is know, other that it’s supposed to be a 1999 vintage, making it a 11/12 year old. I’ve seen some evidence that Moet has registered the Galileo name on the dept. of treasury site, so they must be serious. Rumor also has it that it’s going to be a wine finish (Marsala). I guess we’ll have more info in the coming days.
Update: LVMH NL confirmed this and the expression is to be launched in September and will cost around £70.
Balblair to introduce The “Gathering Place”
Highland whisky distillery Balblair (yes you’ve heard quite a bit about it this week with their 2 new expressions) has introduced a new club by that name which will enable member to:
- receive news about the distillery and our Vintages
- purchase exclusive single casks
- watch expert tasting videos
- be the first to read exclusive guest blogs
- build up your very own online ‘Vintage Cabinet’
- share and discuss tasting notes with like-minded connoisseurs
The coolest thing right now is that you can buy a very limited Single Cask Balblair OB (not many of these eh?) cask # 1463 which is an American oak, but had previously contained an Islay whisky!!. very interesting to see how this one will taste! (tasting notes to come soon, so watch this space!). Very excited to taste this one, as a Balblair fan, and I am sure many are too.
[official tasting notes:]
On the nose it is sweet, smoky and spicy with elements of toffee, butterscotch oranges, apples and floral notes. There is a full bodied flavor with a long smooth finish; smoky and spicy with sweetness developing from hints of orange, vanilla and toffee.
Exciting times.
Have a great weekend.
Gal & Co.
