Tasting Wemyss Malts–‘The Hive’ 12 yo

It’s been a while since we tasted some Wemyss malts, and a few are about to be posted here soon. The first one is the “Hive”. This one is the newest in the series of blended malts, aged 12 year old, and with an emphasis on Speyside malts, with some first fill and refill sherry casks. AS the name suggests quite a bit of sweet stuff (honey) is to be had in this lovely Blended malt (previously called vatted malt, and now an illegal term).

Nose: Starting on honey notes, with vanilla , apples , and wee smoke. Cinnamon and a bit of allspice.

Palate: A lovely mouth feel. Creamy fruit with apricot raisin and smoke. Cinnamon spice and malty honeyed layer.

Finish: oak , spice and fruit.

A very solid vatting this one is. sweet, with the right amount of fruit. It delivers what it promises, without making you think and analyse to much. thoroughly enjoyable.

Score: 85/100

Many thanks to Wemyss for the official sample
